Community Strategic Plan - Our vision
Archived: This project is now closed, you can still read all about it.
In 2021 and 2022, we reviewed the Community Strategic Plan and vision for Eurobodalla's future. This plan all stems from our shared community vision statement. Eurobodalla's previous vision from the 2017 Community Strategic plan was:
- "We are friendly, responsible, thriving and proud."
We wanted to know if the vision still accurately reflected the community's vision for the future. To do this, we used virtual vision boards, surveys, activities for children and young people, and activities for groups so community members could tell us what's important to them.
We incorporated this feedback into our new Community Strategic Plan - Our Eurobodalla, 2042 - which includes the updated community vision:
- "From our beaches to our bushlands, rivers and mountains... Our Eurobodalla is a place of inclusive communities embracing sustainable lifestyles. Our future balances our natural assets and thriving economy. Our community is resilient and collaborative, and this underpins all that we do."
View the community's feedback
We asked people to:
- take a look at the virtual vision boards on this page - there is one board for each theme of the previous community vision:
- add words or pictures to the boards to tell us what each theme means to you now, or what it might mean in the future.
- think of these virtual vision boards as a place to brainstorm ideas about what's important to you, your family, and community.
- add ideas that didn't quite fit under one of these themes.
- complete a short survey about what you value about life in Eurobodalla now and in the future.
The vision boards and survey are now closed, but you can still see view the ideas people suggested.

In the Eurobodalla women make up 51% of the population and need to be involved in decision making. Women need a seat at the table in council!

Improve and add more boating facilities so our beautiful and plentiful sea may be used by more locals and visitors. Sailing, boating kayak and SUP should be used by more people. Whale watching and just getting out on the water will attract people, money and then jobs

Robin Sover 2 years agoProud to prioritise sustainability over profit
Make sustainability (real not platitudes like offsetting) central to planning and development. Impose conditions on developers that protect the environment - such as all new homes must have solar and battery or solar water heating. Or No clear felling - ever. Let’s live the nature coast mantra and BE PROUD of being different
5SusanCover 2 years agoCouncil leadership on climate action
There are many facets to this. Protecting vegetation, encouraging E-bikes (more shared paths), transferring the council fleet to electric vehicles, facilitating local energy schemes, reducing waste, and way way more......

In a way that supports eco-friendly, sensitive and sustainable tourism, attract visitors to experience the best the region has to offer, supporting our economy but retaining the character and unique attributes of the region.
1Alison Wover 2 years agoLet's be that community that keeps our toilets clean and safe and OPEN 24/7, because we have built respect and community pride for them.
Why can some communities avoid these signs about not trusting the community to keep the facilities open? Let's learn more about that 'special quality' and apply it here in the Eurobodalla.

Alison Wover 2 years agoBicycle friendly towns and villages - E-bikes are becoming more popular and can replace cars for many of the under 5km trips we make by car.
Better connected bike paths, preferably separated from the road when road speeds exceed 50km/h, under cover bike racks at popular destinations and shaded and/or sheltered rest stops along popular longer routes can make the shire more bicycle-friendly. Under cover bike racks shelter structures can have solar panels and offer fossil-fuel free charging stations for e-bikes too.

2SusanCover 2 years agoCommunity / street BBQ's as a means to get to know your neighbours.
Develop a BBQ / pizza oven trailer to take to different locations. do letterbox drops in the local area. have weeknight BBQ's/Pizza's to allow locals to get to know other locals. Maybe plant swapping or produce sharing at the event? Yes Council fund the tralier and few staff involved. Still a cost effective way to promote community.

0Ian Crabbover 2 years agoOur region attracts many visitors and we have an obligation to provide basic facilities for them.
There are no toilet facilities accessible close to the Melville Point carpark and Barlings Beach. People are defaecating at the end of Tomakin cove and yesterday a woman and child were urinating by the path as we walked up from the cove.

Brizoeover 2 years agoMore council arranged public meetings at which councillors are required to explain their visions and council programs and performance
Councillors are rarely required to face the people in person. This has resulted in declining political and public speaking skills. Some councillors have largely disengaged from the community and are rarely seen outside council meetings. One councillor claimed she could adequately discharge her electorate responsibilities from rural France.

4Stewartover 2 years agoSustainable development
Eurobodalla council could (should) review its current development criteria and controls to better protect what is unique and rewarding about the area - the natural environment. Stop allowing extensive tree clearing and tree removal. Significantly reduce and manage design of urban development to protect coastal ecosystems and amenity.

Baromyover 2 years agoSolar lighting be installed in Public Stairways for Safety and Security.
The stairways at Keith and Mavis Smith Park in Catalina, and Albert Ryan Park on Beach Road are very steep and quite treacherous at night (over 70 steps each) because NO lighting is installed. At night it is pitch black. This is an accident waiting to happen. There is a simple solution, Solar Lighting.
2CathRover 2 years agoPrioritise and plan for sustainability, not growth.
A sustainable approach focuses on looking after what we have now, and planning how to retain it. Looking after housing equity, quality of life, environment, amenity, food security, employment. A Growth approach damages this.
