Community Strategic Plan - Our vision
Archived: This project is now closed, you can still read all about it.
In 2021 and 2022, we reviewed the Community Strategic Plan and vision for Eurobodalla's future. This plan all stems from our shared community vision statement. Eurobodalla's previous vision from the 2017 Community Strategic plan was:
- "We are friendly, responsible, thriving and proud."
We wanted to know if the vision still accurately reflected the community's vision for the future. To do this, we used virtual vision boards, surveys, activities for children and young people, and activities for groups so community members could tell us what's important to them.
We incorporated this feedback into our new Community Strategic Plan - Our Eurobodalla, 2042 - which includes the updated community vision:
- "From our beaches to our bushlands, rivers and mountains... Our Eurobodalla is a place of inclusive communities embracing sustainable lifestyles. Our future balances our natural assets and thriving economy. Our community is resilient and collaborative, and this underpins all that we do."
View the community's feedback
We asked people to:
- take a look at the virtual vision boards on this page - there is one board for each theme of the previous community vision:
- add words or pictures to the boards to tell us what each theme means to you now, or what it might mean in the future.
- think of these virtual vision boards as a place to brainstorm ideas about what's important to you, your family, and community.
- add ideas that didn't quite fit under one of these themes.
- complete a short survey about what you value about life in Eurobodalla now and in the future.
The vision boards and survey are now closed, but you can still see view the ideas people suggested.

Alisaover 2 years agoBeing proud of and preserving the unique beauty of the Eurobodalla Shire.
8pcarterover 2 years agoFor the community to be proud of unique and beautiful natural assets and friendly and relaxed lifestyle.
The council needs to show leadership in this matter by limiting urban development and consulting with the community on divisive issues (Bay Pavilions Development).
0CharlieBellover 2 years agoBe proud of doing good. Look after our people and our environment. Make the Shire a caring, sharing place.
2ashover 2 years agoA community who is actively engaged in decision making and empowered to shape the region with optimism, care and openness
The most disadvantaged people taken care of and those experiencing disability, homelessness or discrimination looked after in the right ways
1SusanCover 2 years agoSupporting housing initiatives for low income families.
Identifying council land for partnership projects. Encouraging second homes to be rented out on a permanent basis. Providing long term options for those in caravans. In other words Council action to assist in addressing the growing numbers of homeless in Eurobodalla.

Susanover 2 years agoSignage and information
Information and communication that is accessible: signage. Stories, cultural and historical, with context 'of the place'.
1Stewartover 2 years agoFacilitate and promote safe (friendly) cycling
Roads are dangerous for cyclists. Construction and development of the sealed road network in the Eurobodalla poorly considers the needs of road cyclists - consider how dangerous the Mogo/Tomakin and Broulee/Airport/Moruya roads are (and the highway between places north and south of Moruya is unridable safely). Be a friend of cycling. Encourage cycling in the Eurobodalla for local riders and destination visitors by providing safe roads, infrastructure and attitudes to support it.Take a leaf out of the book from places like Bright VIC.
6Ian Crabbover 2 years agoOur region attracts many visitors and we have an obligation to provide basic facilities for them.
There are no toilet facilities accessible close to the Melville Point carpark and Barlings Beach. People are defaecating at the end of Tomakin cove and yesterday a woman and child were urinating by the path as we walked up from the cove.
0Brizoeover 2 years agoA community well led by, competent, engaged and committed councillors and senior staff
Community is greatly disappointed with performance of current council, particularly its strained relationship with many ordinary ratepayers
5SusanCover 2 years agoSafe cycling / shared paths links between communities.
I think of the link between Mossy Point and Moruya. Minimal road shoulders and 100kph in parts. I would love to be able to ride this road - but common sense says NO. Please develop a vision and plan for safe connections between communities. Yes the Moruya to South Head connection needs to be completed - but we need far more than this.

David Graceover 2 years agoTake care of the land we are living on
We do not own our land, we are custodians of it, and we have a responsibility to hand it down to those who come after us. We also need to look after the land for our non-human neighbours. We need to take this responsibility seriously. making use of the land so that it is not degraded, working to ensure that all who live here can thrive. This means we have to carefully review council's strategies regarding land, such as the Rural Lands Strategy, and our other development plans so that what is developed is sustainable, and enhances our beautiful shire. We need to build strategies to responsibly develop appropriate industries in the area, that give us long term, sustainable and properly paid work. We need to work to ensure our environment is no longer damaged.
6ashover 2 years agoGenerate a productive two way dialogue between the community and elected officials, and promote responsible governance
At a local level, where dissatisfaction with Council is high, people need to feel heard, seen and empowered before they will positively engage with and support local services
1Brizoeover 2 years agoUndertake practical and necessary environmental projects eg counter long standing and systemic pollution of Surf Beach
Council have long played down the severity of the pollution problem at the Shires most used beach
1Robin Sover 2 years agoTransparency is crucial to trust.
Council must involve the community more in those things that impact them such as development, events, responses to problems. Community derived solution build trust and reduce suspicion of vested intereet
5Stewartover 2 years agoSustainable development
Eurobodalla council could (should) review its current development criteria and controls to better protect what is unique and rewarding about the area - the natural environment. Stop allowing extensive tree clearing and tree removal. Significantly reduce and manage design of urban development to protect coastal ecosystems and amenity.

Brizoeover 2 years agoProvide up to date survey information on community perceptions of council performance
Page 25 of the accompanying guide suggests that 78% of the community are generally happy with councils overall performance. Details of this survey would he helpful to my participation in this exercise
1Brizoeover 2 years agoReform of councillor responsibilities
Mayor to reorganise committee system to give councillors have significant areas of responsibility. This will ensure that councillors have no opportunity to disengage from the community as now.
4Chrissyeover 2 years agoImprove safety throughout the community - violence, theft, pathways, lighting. Basic community needs.
1Baromyover 2 years agoSolar lighting be installed in Public Stairways for Safety and Security.
The stairways at Keith and Mavis Smith Park in Catalina, and Albert Ryan Park on Beach Road are very steep and quite treacherous at night (over 70 steps each) because NO lighting is installed. At night it is pitch black. This is an accident waiting to happen. There is a simple solution, Solar Lighting.
