Community Strategic Plan - Our vision
Archived: This project is now closed, you can still read all about it.
In 2021 and 2022, we reviewed the Community Strategic Plan and vision for Eurobodalla's future. This plan all stems from our shared community vision statement. Eurobodalla's previous vision from the 2017 Community Strategic plan was:
- "We are friendly, responsible, thriving and proud."
We wanted to know if the vision still accurately reflected the community's vision for the future. To do this, we used virtual vision boards, surveys, activities for children and young people, and activities for groups so community members could tell us what's important to them.
We incorporated this feedback into our new Community Strategic Plan - Our Eurobodalla, 2042 - which includes the updated community vision:
- "From our beaches to our bushlands, rivers and mountains... Our Eurobodalla is a place of inclusive communities embracing sustainable lifestyles. Our future balances our natural assets and thriving economy. Our community is resilient and collaborative, and this underpins all that we do."
View the community's feedback
We asked people to:
- take a look at the virtual vision boards on this page - there is one board for each theme of the previous community vision:
- add words or pictures to the boards to tell us what each theme means to you now, or what it might mean in the future.
- think of these virtual vision boards as a place to brainstorm ideas about what's important to you, your family, and community.
- add ideas that didn't quite fit under one of these themes.
- complete a short survey about what you value about life in Eurobodalla now and in the future.
The vision boards and survey are now closed, but you can still see view the ideas people suggested.

1landscape.architectabout 2 years agoreinstate & grow protections for Batemans Marine Park to thrive, work with Koori community to care for Sea Country + Blue Carbon Economy
"The retention of harvested species was four to six times greater in MPAs compared with partially protected and unprotected areas, and the stabilizing effects of protection were observable within 4 years of park implementation. Conversely, partial protection offered little to no improvement in stability, compared with unprotected areas." -From a study was published in the journal of the The Society for Conservation Biology, outlining a number of benefits to marine sanctuaries, right here in the Batemans Marine park. Koori people have been fishing these waters not only sustainably - regeneratively - since forever, but they're now being fined for practicing their culture and caring for the marine communities which have sustained them for generations upon generations. Not only that, but commercial fishing is allowed and subsidised to essentially scour the seabed without oversight in order to sell the fish which Koori people are penalised for giving to their families. Meanwhile, the protections which limit fishing within the Batemans Marine Park in order to maintain healthy marine populations have been lifted against all expert recommendations. Our marine communities need a diverse balance of predators eating herbivores eating macroalgae providing nursery habitat for the smaller foundational species to continue thriving and growing. Currently, a mass extraction of predator fish by fisheries along with warming waters has created a growing urchin barren eating through the kelp forests who anchor and sustain our beloved marine ecosystems. In balance, these communities together clean waterways, provide food and nourishment, produce oxygen, draw down carbon, cool warming waters, reduce acidification in our oceans, are a joy to behold and are innately connected with the Koori communities in reciprocal, generational partnerships. We've fined the people who can care best for these places, we've subsidised methods of fishing which consume them and create herbivore/predator imbalance, and we've removed any protections for the few remaining sanctuaries left along this part of the coast. If there's any hope of thriving, the marine communities need to be cared for as Sea Country in shared collaboration with the Koori community and elders. sources: Impact of marine protected areas on temporal stability of fish species diversity Amanda K. Stewartabout 2 years agoFacilitate and promote safe (friendly) cycling
Roads are dangerous for cyclists. Construction and development of the sealed road network in the Eurobodalla poorly considers the needs of road cyclists - consider how dangerous the Mogo/Tomakin and Broulee/Airport/Moruya roads are (and the highway between places north and south of Moruya is unridable safely). Be a friend of cycling. Encourage cycling in the Eurobodalla for local riders and destination visitors by providing safe roads, infrastructure and attitudes to support it.Take a leaf out of the book from places like Bright VIC.

There are no toilet facilities accessible close to the Melville Point carpark and Barlings Beach. People are defaecating at the end of Tomakin cove and yesterday a woman and child were urinating by the path as we walked up from the cove.
