Community Strategic Plan - Our vision
Archived: This project is now closed, you can still read all about it.
In 2021 and 2022, we reviewed the Community Strategic Plan and vision for Eurobodalla's future. This plan all stems from our shared community vision statement. Eurobodalla's previous vision from the 2017 Community Strategic plan was:
- "We are friendly, responsible, thriving and proud."
We wanted to know if the vision still accurately reflected the community's vision for the future. To do this, we used virtual vision boards, surveys, activities for children and young people, and activities for groups so community members could tell us what's important to them.
We incorporated this feedback into our new Community Strategic Plan - Our Eurobodalla, 2042 - which includes the updated community vision:
- "From our beaches to our bushlands, rivers and mountains... Our Eurobodalla is a place of inclusive communities embracing sustainable lifestyles. Our future balances our natural assets and thriving economy. Our community is resilient and collaborative, and this underpins all that we do."
View the community's feedback
We asked people to:
- take a look at the virtual vision boards on this page - there is one board for each theme of the previous community vision:
- add words or pictures to the boards to tell us what each theme means to you now, or what it might mean in the future.
- think of these virtual vision boards as a place to brainstorm ideas about what's important to you, your family, and community.
- add ideas that didn't quite fit under one of these themes.
- complete a short survey about what you value about life in Eurobodalla now and in the future.
The vision boards and survey are now closed, but you can still see view the ideas people suggested.

atw262over 2 years agoEncourage development within the current footprint
This will ensure continued availability of housing and services for the community whilst maintaining the natural environment.
2Alison Wover 2 years agoTransition to a circular economy - value all resources so that 'there's no such thing as waste'.
Encourage the development of industries that reuse and repurpose resources in our community. An example is repurposing components of solar panels.
11Middlebrookover 2 years agoDevelop and enhance the tourist experience to support the local economy into the future
Maintain momentum on future development of community shared spaces to include features especially for our children and our youth. Along the Clyde Foreshore and the McKay Park complex, other reserves and parks within the shire.

To support football, equestrian, basketball, the dog club and PCYC into the future.

Kayelover 2 years agoAn Aspiration
To be proud to live in a shire where development does not necessarily happen at any cost.
0Gee3over 2 years agoA proud community feels included, engaged and valued.
We need a Council that is willing to listen to, engage collaboratively with, and communicate respectfully with the community that elected it.
7CathRover 2 years agoProud to be a community planning for future generations.
Climate change, local food supply, affordable housing, diverse employment opportunities.
7David Graceover 2 years agoBe the leader in building a partnership with our community
The Council works best when it works with the community rather than directing it. Lets make use of the experience, knowledge and skills in our community so that we make the best decisions for us all. Lets strive to be a local government leader in building community partnerships!
2georgie651over 2 years agoSolar
The ESC needs to embrace solar more widely, yes there’s evidence around the region of utilising this however new buildings it should be compulsory. For a country like Australia with copious amounts of sun, it’s ludicrous to not install, it’s cost saving. Keep it Aussie as well support Tindo in South Australia

Middlebrookover 2 years agoEncourage and receive visitors and tourists with a welcoming aspect
Encourage inclusive community events: large to encourage visitors (capital to coast run, Mogo bike trails, car rallies …) and small within our villages to encourage community spirit and neighbourliness. Meet and greet with community leaders, councillors/council staff, elected officials (state and federal)
0Stewartover 2 years agoFacilitate and promote safe (friendly) cycling
Roads are dangerous for cyclists. Construction and development of the sealed road network in the Eurobodalla poorly considers the needs of road cyclists - consider how dangerous the Mogo/Tomakin and Broulee/Airport/Moruya roads are (and the highway between places north and south of Moruya is unridable safely). Be a friend of cycling. Encourage cycling in the Eurobodalla for local riders and destination visitors by providing safe roads, infrastructure and attitudes to support it.Take a leaf out of the book from places like Bright VIC.

15Susanover 2 years agoProper sustainability initiatives for businesses and properties
Support for waste removal initiatives and other ways to be more sustainable
3Panksiiover 2 years agoIt means NOT THIS. Ever again.
Allowing endangered forest in Broulee to be clear felled and replaced by brick and bitumen, in honour of decades-old zoning decisions that do not account for the accelerating climate and extinction crisis in the period since is inexplicable. Especially for a council with the responsibility and great privilege as custodians of Eurobodalla's most highly valued asset - not economic activity, not population growth, not extra ratepayers, but its natural environment and biodiversity.
8ashover 2 years agoGenerate a productive two way dialogue between the community and elected officials, and promote responsible governance
At a local level, where dissatisfaction with Council is high, people need to feel heard, seen and empowered before they will positively engage with and support local services
1synchronicityover 2 years agoStop cementing over everything. Including curbs. I don't want to see ugly cement curbs/gutters/drains in my street!! They are not needed.
Part of the reason this is a tourist destination is so that people can get away from the concrete jungle. Look at the "white elephant" footpath/drain at the Northern end of Noad's road. Who decided to cement that over? No one walks there. It's ugly, please stop doing it. It's overdevelopment. The rest of the world (Europe) is mostly against it.

Public access to key information by staff overuse of these confidetiality classifications has been excessively limited. The default needs to be the release of as much information as possible.
1Sianover 2 years agoFogo or similar organic waste management
Seems ridiculous that Eurobodalla is behind all neighbouring councils on this
4Brizoeover 2 years agoReform of councillor responsibilities
Mayor to reorganise committee system to give councillors have significant areas of responsibility. This will ensure that councillors have no opportunity to disengage from the community as now.
4atw262over 2 years agoCommunity/Street Gardens
Provide space for community gardens where people can grow their own veggies and connect with one another.
1Middlebrookover 2 years agoConnectivity for the small villages that comprise the shire with more cycle and footpaths for a healthy lifestyle.
To follow on from the new walking paths, a connection to the northern villages via the new bridge, Surfside’s boardwalk, a pedestrian crossing of Cullendulla Creek to Long Beach via Square Head, via Northcove to Maloney’s Beach and then join the NP walking trail via S Durras to points north. A route for foot and cycle traffic makes for a safe and healthy lifestyle connecting the remote northern villages often bypassed by locals to the detriment of struggling small businesses (stores and cafes)
