Community Strategic Plan - Our vision
Archived: This project is now closed, you can still read all about it.
In 2021 and 2022, we reviewed the Community Strategic Plan and vision for Eurobodalla's future. This plan all stems from our shared community vision statement. Eurobodalla's previous vision from the 2017 Community Strategic plan was:
- "We are friendly, responsible, thriving and proud."
We wanted to know if the vision still accurately reflected the community's vision for the future. To do this, we used virtual vision boards, surveys, activities for children and young people, and activities for groups so community members could tell us what's important to them.
We incorporated this feedback into our new Community Strategic Plan - Our Eurobodalla, 2042 - which includes the updated community vision:
- "From our beaches to our bushlands, rivers and mountains... Our Eurobodalla is a place of inclusive communities embracing sustainable lifestyles. Our future balances our natural assets and thriving economy. Our community is resilient and collaborative, and this underpins all that we do."
View the community's feedback
We asked people to:
- take a look at the virtual vision boards on this page - there is one board for each theme of the previous community vision:
- add words or pictures to the boards to tell us what each theme means to you now, or what it might mean in the future.
- think of these virtual vision boards as a place to brainstorm ideas about what's important to you, your family, and community.
- add ideas that didn't quite fit under one of these themes.
- complete a short survey about what you value about life in Eurobodalla now and in the future.
The vision boards and survey are now closed, but you can still see view the ideas people suggested.

Maureenover 2 years agoDiversity & Inclusion
Council should reflect the community it serves. Understand and respond to the diverse needs of and barriers faced by some community members, so inclusion of diversity can contribute to overall community well being.

0CharlieBellover 2 years agoOur community thrives when the disadvantaged thrive. Leave no-one behind. Be inclusive and caring.
7Stewartover 2 years agoLess is more
Thriving does NOT mean massive development. Environmentally friendly and sustainable development that allows a community to appreciate the natural environment of the Eurobodalla is what ‘thriving’ is. Have a strong regional plan for sustainable development - avoiding the cumulative impact of ongoing ad-hoc developments on the natural environment and local amenity should be a major focus.
9Dallis Tannerover 2 years agoMore cultural diversity
Community Arts & Recreation have a focus on predominantly visual arts. I would like to encourage more concerts and live music in all areas. Granite Town using existing venues in our towns.

Robin Sover 2 years agoProud to prioritise sustainability over profit
Make sustainability (real not platitudes like offsetting) central to planning and development. Impose conditions on developers that protect the environment - such as all new homes must have solar and battery or solar water heating. Or No clear felling - ever. Let’s live the nature coast mantra and BE PROUD of being different
5Eurobodover 2 years agoCelebrate the unique environment, the resilient community, our natural and indigenous heritage. Be proud of that
10georgie651over 2 years agoOutdoor exercise & training equipment at the main parks in the 3 main towns
Each town, BB, Moruya & Narooma could benefit from having an outdoor exercise training equipment installed at the main parks in each town, encourage healthy outdoor activities. Many towns have these they’re popular in metropolitan & rural
4David Graceover 2 years agoBe the leader in building a partnership with our community
The Council works best when it works with the community rather than directing it. Lets make use of the experience, knowledge and skills in our community so that we make the best decisions for us all. Lets strive to be a local government leader in building community partnerships!
2Susanover 2 years agoHighlight the strengths and assets of our region to audiences outside Eurobodalla
In a way that supports eco-friendly, sensitive and sustainable tourism, attract visitors to experience the best the region has to offer, supporting our economy but retaining the character and unique attributes of the region.

Middlebrookover 2 years agoEncourage and receive visitors and tourists with a welcoming aspect
Encourage inclusive community events: large to encourage visitors (capital to coast run, Mogo bike trails, car rallies …) and small within our villages to encourage community spirit and neighbourliness. Meet and greet with community leaders, councillors/council staff, elected officials (state and federal)
0Eurobodover 2 years agoAs Eurobodalla declared itself a Refugee Welcome Zone it would be good if this was activated by a multi cultural officer at Council.
6Susanover 2 years agoSignage and information
Information and communication that is accessible: signage. Stories, cultural and historical, with context 'of the place'.
1atw262over 2 years agoCommunity sport
Sporting groups provide a friendly and welcoming atmosphere in the community.
5SusanCover 2 years agoSafe cycling / shared paths links between communities.
I think of the link between Mossy Point and Moruya. Minimal road shoulders and 100kph in parts. I would love to be able to ride this road - but common sense says NO. Please develop a vision and plan for safe connections between communities. Yes the Moruya to South Head connection needs to be completed - but we need far more than this.

Robin Sover 2 years agoReview previous large development applications such as Dalmeny and Broulee
If they are over 5 years old consider if they are still valid. Consult with the impacted community to really understand AND ADDRESS their concerns
5Brizoeover 2 years agoUndertake practical and necessary environmental projects eg counter long standing and systemic pollution of Surf Beach
Council have long played down the severity of the pollution problem at the Shires most used beach
1Brizoeover 2 years agoMore council arranged public meetings at which councillors are required to explain their visions and council programs and performance
Councillors are rarely required to face the people in person. This has resulted in declining political and public speaking skills. Some councillors have largely disengaged from the community and are rarely seen outside council meetings. One councillor claimed she could adequately discharge her electorate responsibilities from rural France.

Let us know if something is missing. If you have ideas, priorities, or goals for the community that just don't quite fit under one of the existing vision's themes, add your ideas here or click the 'like' button to show you agree or support someone else's idea.
Alison Wover 2 years agoEmbrace renewable and micro-grids for community energy resilience.
Our grid electricity travels a long way and loses efficiency along the way to reach us. Let's embrace the amazing opportunities of advances in renewables and battery and storage technology and generate power here where we can, to decrease our reliance on energy imported from afar.

Environment, living, development and support for one another.
6Stewartover 2 years agoLast Chance Saloon
Get serious about climate change. Value trees and forests. Don’t overdevelop, focus on conservation of environment and natural amenity. Be creative and lead the region in environmental responsibility. Make money through innovation not overdevelopment. The point of difference Eurobodalla still has is its natural beauty - focus on retaining and promoting that.
8atw262over 2 years agoWe are resilient in tough times.
Bushfires, floods and covid have impacted us, but we are getting through it together.
5Middlebrookover 2 years agoConnectivity for the small villages that comprise the shire with more cycle and footpaths for a healthy lifestyle.
To follow on from the new walking paths, a connection to the northern villages via the new bridge, Surfside’s boardwalk, a pedestrian crossing of Cullendulla Creek to Long Beach via Square Head, via Northcove to Maloney’s Beach and then join the NP walking trail via S Durras to points north. A route for foot and cycle traffic makes for a safe and healthy lifestyle connecting the remote northern villages often bypassed by locals to the detriment of struggling small businesses (stores and cafes)
