Community Strategic Plan - Our vision
Archived: This project is now closed, you can still read all about it.
In 2021 and 2022, we reviewed the Community Strategic Plan and vision for Eurobodalla's future. This plan all stems from our shared community vision statement. Eurobodalla's previous vision from the 2017 Community Strategic plan was:
- "We are friendly, responsible, thriving and proud."
We wanted to know if the vision still accurately reflected the community's vision for the future. To do this, we used virtual vision boards, surveys, activities for children and young people, and activities for groups so community members could tell us what's important to them.
We incorporated this feedback into our new Community Strategic Plan - Our Eurobodalla, 2042 - which includes the updated community vision:
- "From our beaches to our bushlands, rivers and mountains... Our Eurobodalla is a place of inclusive communities embracing sustainable lifestyles. Our future balances our natural assets and thriving economy. Our community is resilient and collaborative, and this underpins all that we do."
View the community's feedback
We asked people to:
- take a look at the virtual vision boards on this page - there is one board for each theme of the previous community vision:
- add words or pictures to the boards to tell us what each theme means to you now, or what it might mean in the future.
- think of these virtual vision boards as a place to brainstorm ideas about what's important to you, your family, and community.
- add ideas that didn't quite fit under one of these themes.
- complete a short survey about what you value about life in Eurobodalla now and in the future.
The vision boards and survey are now closed, but you can still see view the ideas people suggested.

Thriving does NOT mean massive development. Environmentally friendly and sustainable development that allows a community to appreciate the natural environment of the Eurobodalla is what ‘thriving’ is. Have a strong regional plan for sustainable development - avoiding the cumulative impact of ongoing ad-hoc developments on the natural environment and local amenity should be a major focus.

Robin Sover 2 years agoProud to prioritise sustainability over profit
Make sustainability (real not platitudes like offsetting) central to planning and development. Impose conditions on developers that protect the environment - such as all new homes must have solar and battery or solar water heating. Or No clear felling - ever. Let’s live the nature coast mantra and BE PROUD of being different

Pride comes from within. Ensure the local environment and community is appreciated and valued. Listen to people. Recognise local groups, their stories and history. Accept a responsibility for the region we share and promote a sensitive and responsible vision for the future. Ensure a living environment that is healthy and sustainable. Act locally - think globally.

1CharlieBellover 2 years agoAn inclusive community. We need to provide the services needed for all our residents to have safety, security and a place to live.
2David Graceover 2 years agoWork with local villages and towns to build local events and festivals
Local events build community spirit, and this leads to stronger and more resilient townships and villages. Resilient communities are more likely to be aware of and look after residents who need assistance, and are more likely to be able to withstand the community traumas of disasters such as bushfires. The festivals and events can also provide colour and interest for the tourists who come to the area, and leave them feeling that the shire is a welcoming and friendly place.

1David Graceover 2 years agoTake care of the land we are living on
We do not own our land, we are custodians of it, and we have a responsibility to hand it down to those who come after us. We also need to look after the land for our non-human neighbours. We need to take this responsibility seriously. making use of the land so that it is not degraded, working to ensure that all who live here can thrive. This means we have to carefully review council's strategies regarding land, such as the Rural Lands Strategy, and our other development plans so that what is developed is sustainable, and enhances our beautiful shire. We need to build strategies to responsibly develop appropriate industries in the area, that give us long term, sustainable and properly paid work. We need to work to ensure our environment is no longer damaged.
6SusanCover 2 years agoRequire vegetation protection in new subdivisions AND vegetation protection barriers and setbacks during construction works
An example of failure to protect substantial trees is the Sunshine Bay subdivision that is currently underway. Dismal tree protection and the supposed sediment barriers which were inadequate will mean trees that were to be retained will die. Where is council's responsibility for planning responsibly and enforcing? Both are part of responsibility.

The stairways at Keith and Mavis Smith Park in Catalina, and Albert Ryan Park on Beach Road are very steep and quite treacherous at night (over 70 steps each) because NO lighting is installed. As cities are greening up, regional areas are clear-felling. Let's change this and create imaginative, well designed, environmentally friendly sub-divisions that preserve trees and natural habitat for greener, cooler, human and animal-friendly living spaces.
9CathRover 2 years agoPrioritise and plan for sustainability, not growth.
A sustainable approach focuses on looking after what we have now, and planning how to retain it. Looking after housing equity, quality of life, environment, amenity, food security, employment. A Growth approach damages this.
