Our vision
Archived: This project is now closed, you can still read all about it.
In 2021 and 2022, we reviewed the Community Strategic Plan and vision for Eurobodalla's future. This plan all stems from our shared community vision statement. Eurobodalla's previous vision from the 2017 Community Strategic plan was:
- "We are friendly, responsible, thriving and proud."
We wanted to know if the vision still accurately reflected the community's vision for the future. To do this, we used virtual vision boards, surveys, activities for children and young people, and activities for groups so community members could tell us what's important to them.
We incorporated this feedback into our new Community Strategic Plan - Our Eurobodalla, 2042 - which includes the updated community vision:
- "From our beaches to our bushlands, rivers and mountains... Our Eurobodalla is a place of inclusive communities embracing sustainable lifestyles. Our future balances our natural assets and thriving economy. Our community is resilient and collaborative, and this underpins all that we do."
View the community's feedback
We asked people to:
- take a look at the virtual vision boards on this page - there is one board for each theme of the previous community vision:
- add words or pictures to the boards to tell us what each theme means to you now, or what it might mean in the future.
- think of these virtual vision boards as a place to brainstorm ideas about what's important to you, your family, and community.
- add ideas that didn't quite fit under one of these themes.
- complete a short survey about what you value about life in Eurobodalla now and in the future.
The vision boards and survey are now closed, but you can still see view the ideas people suggested.

atw262over 1 year agoEncourage development within the current footprint
This will ensure continued availability of housing and services for the community whilst maintaining the natural environment.
2ashover 1 year agoActive, engaged communities who are stimulated by entertainment, opportunities and participate in building a happy and healthy future
Things to do and see, growth and optimism about where we live and who we are
0Alison Wover 1 year agoTransition to a circular economy - value all resources so that 'there's no such thing as waste'.
Encourage the development of industries that reuse and repurpose resources in our community. An example is repurposing components of solar panels.

georgie651over 1 year agoOutdoor exercise & training equipment at the main parks in the 3 main towns
Each town, BB, Moruya & Narooma could benefit from having an outdoor exercise training equipment installed at the main parks in each town, encourage healthy outdoor activities. Many towns have these they’re popular in metropolitan & rural
4Naeboover 1 year agoPedestrian only area on Vulcan St Moruya
Once the bypass is in, make Vulcan Street through town a pedestrian only area, add lots of trees, and make it a place to BE, not just pass through - outdoor eating, entertainment, festivals
5RJMover 1 year agoClean public spaces. For example, the Mara Mia Walkway along the foreshore in Batemans Bay is in need of serious care and maintenance.
Pressure washing tables at the end of the jetty’s, and the whole area really, would be a good start. The bird poo looks like it’s never been cleaned off railings or the tables unless the rain gets to it. It’s a shame these facilities are in such appalling condition. We are a tourist destination. As a local I find it revolting. Why would a tourist want to sit there? Don’t forget the existing facilities when creating new ones.
3SusanCover 1 year agoCouncil leadership on climate action
There are many facets to this. Protecting vegetation, encouraging E-bikes (more shared paths), transferring the council fleet to electric vehicles, facilitating local energy schemes, reducing waste, and way way more......
5David Graceover 1 year agoBe the leader in building a partnership with our community
The Council works best when it works with the community rather than directing it. Lets make use of the experience, knowledge and skills in our community so that we make the best decisions for us all. Lets strive to be a local government leader in building community partnerships!

2Brizoeover 1 year agoA community well led by, competent, engaged and committed councillors and senior staff
Community is greatly disappointed with performance of current council, particularly its strained relationship with many ordinary ratepayers
5CharlieBellover 1 year agoAn inclusive community. We need to provide the services needed for all our residents to have safety, security and a place to live.
2FutureIdeas44over 1 year agoMany people stop at Nelligen. With steep roads many can't walk far. It would be wonderful to have a boardwalk circuit along the river.
The river boat comes regularly from Batemans Bay to Nelligen. Because of the steepness of the town it is very difficult for the young and the old to walk around. To have a raised boardwalk would greatly add to the enjoyment of this beautiful area. It would attract many more people to come to Nelligen by boat or road.
7David Graceover 1 year agoWork with local villages and towns to build local events and festivals
Local events build community spirit, and this leads to stronger and more resilient townships and villages. Resilient communities are more likely to be aware of and look after residents who need assistance, and are more likely to be able to withstand the community traumas of disasters such as bushfires. The festivals and events can also provide colour and interest for the tourists who come to the area, and leave them feeling that the shire is a welcoming and friendly place.

4Brizoeover 1 year agoCommence the next urban land use planning cycle immediately
The last shire wide land use strategy development commenced in 2001 and was only completed recently with the adoption of the rural LEP. The current surge in population growth demands an urgent review to bring town planning into line with recent environmental and other requirements. The current community must agree to renew historic zonings to avoid recent problems with zombie developments at Tuross and Dalmeney
5SusanCover 1 year agoRequire vegetation protection in new subdivisions AND vegetation protection barriers and setbacks during construction works
An example of failure to protect substantial trees is the Sunshine Bay subdivision that is currently underway. Dismal tree protection and the supposed sediment barriers which were inadequate will mean trees that were to be retained will die. Where is council's responsibility for planning responsibly and enforcing? Both are part of responsibility.

Bushfires, floods and covid have impacted us, but we are getting through it together.
5JaneCover 1 year agoRejuvenation at Corrigans Beach to include shade sails beachside as well as BBQ's and shelters outside the playground closer to the beach.
An example of this idea is at Koombana Bay in Bunbury WA. It is very similar in that it is a safe spot for swimming and water sports but the lack of shade and shelters leaves it a bit exposed. Extra BBQ's beachside from the playground would be great, to enjoy the view from the beach while socialising. The amphitheater style steps as done in Koombana would work well for fireworks nights and generally sitting to eat fish 'n' chips by the beach without getting too sandy. I believe this would bring many people to the Batehaven area to enjoy the cafes, playground, and beach.
