Community Strategic Plan - Our vision
Archived: This project is now closed, you can still read all about it.
In 2021 and 2022, we reviewed the Community Strategic Plan and vision for Eurobodalla's future. This plan all stems from our shared community vision statement. Eurobodalla's previous vision from the 2017 Community Strategic plan was:
- "We are friendly, responsible, thriving and proud."
We wanted to know if the vision still accurately reflected the community's vision for the future. To do this, we used virtual vision boards, surveys, activities for children and young people, and activities for groups so community members could tell us what's important to them.
We incorporated this feedback into our new Community Strategic Plan - Our Eurobodalla, 2042 - which includes the updated community vision:
- "From our beaches to our bushlands, rivers and mountains... Our Eurobodalla is a place of inclusive communities embracing sustainable lifestyles. Our future balances our natural assets and thriving economy. Our community is resilient and collaborative, and this underpins all that we do."
View the community's feedback
We asked people to:
- take a look at the virtual vision boards on this page - there is one board for each theme of the previous community vision:
- add words or pictures to the boards to tell us what each theme means to you now, or what it might mean in the future.
- think of these virtual vision boards as a place to brainstorm ideas about what's important to you, your family, and community.
- add ideas that didn't quite fit under one of these themes.
- complete a short survey about what you value about life in Eurobodalla now and in the future.
The vision boards and survey are now closed, but you can still see view the ideas people suggested.

This will ensure continued availability of housing and services for the community whilst maintaining the natural environment.
2Middlebrookover 2 years agoDevelop and enhance the tourist experience to support the local economy into the future
Maintain momentum on future development of community shared spaces to include features especially for our children and our youth. Along the Clyde Foreshore and the McKay Park complex, other reserves and parks within the shire.

It costs nothing to be nice
6RJMover 2 years agoEncourage big businesses to invest in local shopping centres and give us more choice.
One option for kids clothing in Batemans Bay means travelling and spending in other areas, and supporting jobs in those areas eg Canberra, Shellharbour, etc.
3Courtneyover 2 years agoBe proud of our unique natural area.
Be happy to protect, enjoy and share the natural values of why we chose to live here.

Nothing says lack of pride than dozens of empty shopfronts

Identifying council land for partnership projects. Encouraging second homes to be rented out on a permanent basis. Providing long term options for those in caravans. In other words Council action to assist in addressing the growing numbers of homeless in Eurobodalla.

Our Eurobodalla Teamover 2 years agoMy community feels like home
1Ian Crabbover 2 years agoOur region attracts many visitors and we have an obligation to provide basic facilities for them.
There are no toilet facilities accessible close to the Melville Point carpark and Barlings Beach. People are defaecating at the end of Tomakin cove and yesterday a woman and child were urinating by the path as we walked up from the cove.
0FutureIdeas44over 2 years agoPeople come to live and holiday in Batemans Bay because of its beauty and our hospital. It is essential to keep the Emergency Department.
The hospital building could also be used by medical specialists and generalists. Without the hospital the growth of the town will be limited.
2SusanCover 2 years agoCommunity / street BBQ's as a means to get to know your neighbours.
Develop a BBQ / pizza oven trailer to take to different locations. do letterbox drops in the local area. have weeknight BBQ's/Pizza's to allow locals to get to know other locals. Maybe plant swapping or produce sharing at the event? Yes Council fund the tralier and few staff involved. Still a cost effective way to promote community.
0Alison Wover 2 years agoBicycle friendly towns and villages - E-bikes are becoming more popular and can replace cars for many of the under 5km trips we make by car.
Better connected bike paths, preferably separated from the road when road speeds exceed 50km/h, under cover bike racks at popular destinations and shaded and/or sheltered rest stops along popular longer routes can make the shire more bicycle-friendly. Under cover bike racks shelter structures can have solar panels and offer fossil-fuel free charging stations for e-bikes too.

Brizoeover 2 years agoCommence the next urban land use planning cycle immediately
The last shire wide land use strategy development commenced in 2001 and was only completed recently with the adoption of the rural LEP. The current surge in population growth demands an urgent review to bring town planning into line with recent environmental and other requirements. The current community must agree to renew historic zonings to avoid recent problems with zombie developments at Tuross and Dalmeney

2Gee3over 2 years agoDeclaring a State of Climate Emergency, protecting our natural environment, disallowing clear-felling for residential and other developments
Trees and bushland are one of our greatest natural assets for mitigating climate change. All developments should allow for tree, bushland and habitat preservation wherever possible.
5Maloneysover 2 years agoNorthern Batemans Bay Walkway / Cycleway
A walkway / cycleway from Maloneys Beach through Long Beach and Surfside to Batemans Bay CBD including a crossing of Cullendulla Creek. This is a glaring missing link in the NSW Great South Walk.

There are many established spotted gums there. Some with hollows. Probably a 1000+ tonnes of carbon stored there.

6Stewartover 2 years agoLast Chance Saloon
Get serious about climate change. Value trees and forests. Don’t overdevelop, focus on conservation of environment and natural amenity. Be creative and lead the region in environmental responsibility. Make money through innovation not overdevelopment. The point of difference Eurobodalla still has is its natural beauty - focus on retaining and promoting that.
8Middlebrookover 2 years agoConnectivity for the small villages that comprise the shire with more cycle and footpaths for a healthy lifestyle.
To follow on from the new walking paths, a connection to the northern villages via the new bridge, Surfside’s boardwalk, a pedestrian crossing of Cullendulla Creek to Long Beach via Square Head, via Northcove to Maloney’s Beach and then join the NP walking trail via S Durras to points north. A route for foot and cycle traffic makes for a safe and healthy lifestyle connecting the remote northern villages often bypassed by locals to the detriment of struggling small businesses (stores and cafes)
7Gee3over 2 years agoEurobodalla Shire as leaders in sustainable, eco-friendly and imaginative development.
As cities are greening up, regional areas are clear-felling. Let's change this and create imaginative, well designed, environmentally friendly sub-divisions that preserve trees and natural habitat for greener, cooler, human and animal-friendly living spaces.
9CathRover 2 years agoPrioritise and plan for sustainability, not growth.
A sustainable approach focuses on looking after what we have now, and planning how to retain it. Looking after housing equity, quality of life, environment, amenity, food security, employment. A Growth approach damages this.
