Community Strategic Plan - Our vision
Archived: This project is now closed, you can still read all about it.
In 2021 and 2022, we reviewed the Community Strategic Plan and vision for Eurobodalla's future. This plan all stems from our shared community vision statement. Eurobodalla's previous vision from the 2017 Community Strategic plan was:
- "We are friendly, responsible, thriving and proud."
We wanted to know if the vision still accurately reflected the community's vision for the future. To do this, we used virtual vision boards, surveys, activities for children and young people, and activities for groups so community members could tell us what's important to them.
We incorporated this feedback into our new Community Strategic Plan - Our Eurobodalla, 2042 - which includes the updated community vision:
- "From our beaches to our bushlands, rivers and mountains... Our Eurobodalla is a place of inclusive communities embracing sustainable lifestyles. Our future balances our natural assets and thriving economy. Our community is resilient and collaborative, and this underpins all that we do."
View the community's feedback
We asked people to:
- take a look at the virtual vision boards on this page - there is one board for each theme of the previous community vision:
- add words or pictures to the boards to tell us what each theme means to you now, or what it might mean in the future.
- think of these virtual vision boards as a place to brainstorm ideas about what's important to you, your family, and community.
- add ideas that didn't quite fit under one of these themes.
- complete a short survey about what you value about life in Eurobodalla now and in the future.
The vision boards and survey are now closed, but you can still see view the ideas people suggested.

Middlebrookover 2 years agoDevelop and enhance the tourist experience to support the local economy into the future
Maintain momentum on future development of community shared spaces to include features especially for our children and our youth. Along the Clyde Foreshore and the McKay Park complex, other reserves and parks within the shire.

Thriving does NOT mean massive development. Environmentally friendly and sustainable development that allows a community to appreciate the natural environment of the Eurobodalla is what ‘thriving’ is. Have a strong regional plan for sustainable development - avoiding the cumulative impact of ongoing ad-hoc developments on the natural environment and local amenity should be a major focus.
9Maureenover 2 years agoDiversity & Inclusion
Council should reflect the community it serves. Understand and respond to the diverse needs of and barriers faced by some community members, so inclusion of diversity can contribute to overall community well being.

Encourage the development of industries that reuse and repurpose resources in our community. An example is repurposing components of solar panels.

georgie651over 2 years agoSolar
The ESC needs to embrace solar more widely, yes there’s evidence around the region of utilising this however new buildings it should be compulsory. For a country like Australia with copious amounts of sun, it’s ludicrous to not install, it’s cost saving. Keep it Aussie as well support Tindo in South Australia
3Eurobodover 2 years agoCelebrate the unique environment, the resilient community, our natural and indigenous heritage. Be proud of that
10SusanCover 2 years agoSupporting housing initiatives for low income families.
Identifying council land for partnership projects. Encouraging second homes to be rented out on a permanent basis. Providing long term options for those in caravans. In other words Council action to assist in addressing the growing numbers of homeless in Eurobodalla.
6Stingraysover 2 years agoProud of valuing the pristine environment.
0Robin Sover 2 years agoProud to prioritise sustainability over profit
Make sustainability (real not platitudes like offsetting) central to planning and development. Impose conditions on developers that protect the environment - such as all new homes must have solar and battery or solar water heating. Or No clear felling - ever. Let’s live the nature coast mantra and BE PROUD of being different

2FutureIdeas44over 2 years agoMany people stop at Nelligen. With steep roads many can't walk far. It would be wonderful to have a boardwalk circuit along the river.
The river boat comes regularly from Batemans Bay to Nelligen. Because of the steepness of the town it is very difficult for the young and the old to walk around. To have a raised boardwalk would greatly add to the enjoyment of this beautiful area. It would attract many more people to come to Nelligen by boat or road.

CharlieBellover 2 years agoResidents and Council need to be responsible for maintaining the health and protection of our people and our environment.
4Dallis Tannerover 2 years agoMitigating effect of urban heat sinks, increased ambient temperature in urban areas.
In Eurobodalla Shire the Moruya area is at particular risk of increased ambient temperatures due to being 8km from the coast. I would like to see more shade trees, shrubs etc planted along pedestrian routes, play areas, sporting fields, car parks etc. I would like to see landscaping mandated in all new developments across the Shire. Sensible plantings of small trees, large shrubs that do not block sun on roof top solar panels or cause undue maintenance costs. Where clearing areas of vegetation for development there should be offset planting within the development to compensate. I would like to see management plans for parks with successional planning so that younger trees are planted well before older trees that are ailing are removed.
